Welcome! We're happy you're here~
We're either in the bush or at the beach but we do love visitors so drop us a line. We're a couple hours north of Toronto and always happy to share a few local spots while you're here. If you're coming to meet your future pup, we also encourage you to bring along their fur-siblings too.
Our experience is spanning three generations now and we're proud to offer healthy, well-rounded family members to people looking for a pup of a higher caliber.
We're always striving to find the perfect balance between health, structure and sensibility. A dog that's not just impressive to look at, but one who's temperament will bring you years of both pride and joy. Longevity and health go hand in hand and so we start with genetic testing. Health testing is important to us here and all our stock is tested Clear/Normal for JHC, BAER and CAER at a minimum.
We also believe that we are what we eat. As such, and conscious as we are to both our own limitations and the environment, we feed a varying diet of quality, human grade food- much of it local, and we're pleased to say that allergies are not an issue in our lines.
Our original Boston line is five generations old now but in a continuous effort to improve our lines, we're fortunate to have been trusted with other quality bloodlines from across the U.S. and Canada.
Depending on your preference, we have both Standard and Colored Bostons and everyone is registered with either The American Kennel Club, The Canadian Kennel Club or the Continental Kennel Club (recognized in the U.S. only)
To us, the Bostons are a "Big dog in a little package" and they're treated that way.
Our pups have expectations from birth and the first thing they learn is that we travel a LOT. As a military family we've always been very mobile and all our dogs are exceptionally good travelers.
We're blessed to live on 5 acres in Muskoka now, where we also spend a lot of time on the water- and the pups are baptized early. Fishing, boating, hiking and playing with the neighborhood kids, they're an adventurous bunch. We own Clearwater Electric, a small, family run company where I'm fortunate to be Mom to both our ten-year son and the pack. It's a win, win- they get to be the center of attention all day and we get to play with them.
Crate training is of utmost important during puppyhood, both for their mental health and our own. That's why we have a tried and true system for starting them off. By the time they come home to you, they're calm, quiet and familiar with the routines of their crate..(And you'll be content knowing you have a puppy you can sneak into your mother-in-law's apartment)
Everyone knows 'THAT' dog. Barking, jumping, chewing, digging.. the type of pet that doesn't get invited back for family functions. Since pups learn from a very young age, we're sure that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Marrow bones, sand boxes, and a set of guidelines for everyone that handles the pups is a great start.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
While we always encourage folks to look at as many different litters as they can (this will give you a good feel for the dogs, their breeders and the home they live in.) we're pretty confident you'll be delighted with your Beechwood's pup. So much so, that all our pups have a lifetime Home Again Policy. For any or no reason, no questions asked, we will always buy a dog back- for their lifetimes.
They go home with you microchipped with a pre-paid registration, a non-breeding contract and a written, two-year genetic health guarantee. As well, all our pups are JHC (Juvenile Hereditary Cataracts) Clear, through parentage or genetic testing, BAER (Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response) tested at the University of Guelph or the University of South Florida, along with CAER (Companion Animal Eye Registry) tested when available (due to Covid-19)
Basic obedience training will have been started for you and every pup is individually crate trained to about six hours, (or most of the night if you're an early riser.). We've found that a slow transition from sleeping with their littermates to a crate of their own makes for an infinitely happier, more confident pup.
While we all have a picture of what the perfect pup looks, we recommend you choose your pup based on your lifestyle and their temperament. Are you at work during the day? Or are you a busy family? Within each litter will be a range of personalities and finding the best match for your new family member is of utmost importance. You may also have a preference for sex or color. A little Standard girl? Or maybe a Blue Brindle boy? Once you've decided on what you're looking for, the wait begins.. Like all good things that are worth the wait, your new baby is no exception. We breed a select few litters a year so you'll want to reserve your pup before they're born. Once a pregnancy is confirmed, we like to keep you updated on Mama and the babies through video chats and lots of pictures. I mean, when you're THIS cute, you gotta flaunt it!
We welcome both. Puppyhood can be hectic and sometimes questions or concerns crop up. Don't despair, that's what we're here for. Whether it's a potty-training issue or bragging rights on their latest milestone- consider us like grandparents. And while we're on the subject of grandparents, it's with respect and gratitude that Beechwood's offers a Senior and Military discount.
WHAT ABOUT MY BUDGET?
Don't worry. The only thing average about our pups is their price.
